Like many late-'90s metallic element bands, System of a Down stricken a residuum 'tween '80s resistance slash metallic element and metallic early-'90s alternative bikers care Jane's Addiction. Their non-white, neo-gothic alternative alloy earned a cult following in the wake of the popularity of such likeminded bands as Korn and the Deftones. Vocalist Serj Tankian, guitar player Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan formed System of a Down in southern California in the mid-'90s. They quickly earned a substantial undermentioned in Los Angeles, mostly based on substantial son of rima oris. A three-song demonstration began circulating through alloy collectors, and their fan nucleotide shortly ranch throughout non only America, simply Europe and New Zealand.

By the end of 1997, the group had sign to American, then distributed by Columbia Records. American/Columbia released the group's eponymic debut album in the summertime of 1998, securing the band opening muscae volitantes on the Slayer and Ozzfest tours. System eventually went gold, and set up the September 2001 button of the even more ambitious Toxicity. System's minute feat was some other weighed down music prevail, shaming the absolute majority of their nu-metal competition and running aside with multi-platinum honors. The quartette didn't dense down. Malakian started the eatURmusic embossment and Tankian a label called Serjical Strike; Tankian too collaborated with Armenian vanguard folk musician Arto Tuncboyaciyan in a propose called Serart. In November 2002 System issued the bare bones only no less powerful odds 'n' ends localise Slip This Album!; they too remained politically active.

By 2004, System of a Down was back in the studio with Rick Rubin. The bold outcome of those roger Huntington Sessions was a single, larger-than-life album released in 2 parts. Mezmerize/Mesmerise kept System's enraged creativity awake, incorporating the wild vocal melodies, lyrical warmth, and rabid structural shifts that had go their hallmark. Mezmerize, or office one, appeared in May 2005, piece Mesmerize, its last section, appeared later in the yr, and both strike the top of the record album charts.

There is some confusion around the name Darwin Chamber, many people ar shy whether it is a radical or a solo creative person. The accuracy is that it all depends on the gig. Darwin Chamber is the alter ego of Mark Greenfield. Sometimes Greenfield brings some other creative person into his act, sometimes he performs or produces on his have. Either way, he performs under his leg name (elysian by scientist Charles Darwin). A give-and-take of Marin County in Northern California, this producer has been active in the progressive electronic scene for more than than ten dollar bill years. Just like the rest of the tube-shaped structure music scene's pioneers, he started learning his craft on a garish keyboard in a friend's house and gradually kept moving on to more expensive equipment and more than prestigious venues.

A professional heavy technologist and bona fide "node tweaker", Chamber has earned deference on a expert level as well as a creative one. Creatively, he is acknowledged as one of the earliest contributors to the breakbeat and trip-hop sub-genres.

Chamber low gear made a advert for himself in San Francisco, but gained plenitude of recognition on the national and world music scenes in the recent '90s, even earning a nod from MTV during his flush. He released music on diverse indie labels, such as Twitch and Basssex. However, he gained the to the highest degree recognition for his uncut dismissal on Moonshine Records in 1998. Moonshine is peradventure the largest and best-known electronic tag in the state. When Chamber released the record album, called Ghetto Electro Chronicles, he united the ranks of DJ Keoki, Dieselboy, and Goldie, all of whom are Moonshine artists.

‘Spelling Bee’ Queen Celia Keenan-Bolger on Playing Pregnant in ‘Saved,’ the Musical

Photo: Joan Marcus
As Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Celia Keenan-Bolger not only charmed audiences with her rendition of "My Friend, the Dictionary" but picked up a Tony nomination. Now, following a performance as the pregnant Mary in Juno (the Encores! production, not the Ellen Page movie), she's starring in Off Broadway's Saved as … well, a pregnant girl named Mary. In this musical adaptation of the 2004 Christian-satire movie, which opens tonight at Playwrights Horizons, Keenan-Bolger steps into Jena Malone's role as a high schooler seeking redemption for her gay boyfriend. She spoke with Vulture about playing a teen at 30, her own high-school experience, and the challenges of starring in Juno (the other one).

Have you seen the movie version of Saved!?
I watched it for the first time about a year ago, when they said they would be interested in me doing the play. And I haven’t actually seen it since — I thought about revisiting it when we were in rehearsals, but then I just got too nervous. Because I remember thinking Jena Malone was so good, and I was like, "You know, it won’t be useful. It will get in my head, and I’ll probably end up doing an imitation of her."

It seems like some of the characters have softened up compared to their versions in the film. Do you think Mary is different at all?
Whenever you have characters singing, all of a sudden you’re getting an interior that you would never get in a movie because essentially the songs are an expression of an emotion that you wouldn’t capture in a lens. I also feel like in New York City to make a musical about Christians that are crazy is kind of easy. Your audience is so built into that; people are happy to get on that train. Something that drew me to the project was that they were trying to put everyone in a fair light.

What was your own high-school experience like?
I went to public school in Detroit so I was one of like two white kids in my entire high school. It was a performing-arts school so it was much more out there than a normal high-school experience. But because I was a minority, I was always a little on the outside. I remember getting to college, and being like, "Whoa, there are a lot of white people here."

And now you’re 30. What’s it like to play an adolescent?
It’s interesting, I think when I first started doing the show, I was so self-conscious about it and so interested in making people believe that there was some plausibility in me being in high school, and by the fourth preview I totally abandoned that. I think high school is such a crazy time because so much is happening around you, so much is changing, and you’re filled with questions, whether you’re religious or not. I’ve just tried to focus on that part of it as opposed to playing the age.

As we were watching the show, we kept thinking about Juno — the movie, not the musical you were just in. It's also a high-school student who gets pregnant after her first time. Was there any discussion of that?
Well, we started working on this before Juno came out. But what I started thinking was, Why is this? Why are pieces of art being made about this? There is this sort of surge. And I suppose you could just say it’s just coincidence, but I would like to think it’s a little bit deeper than that. At one point the writers had a line, when I had the sonogram, which was like, "What’s with the sea monkey? Are you, like, having a sea monkey?" And someone was like, "No, you can’t say that line — that line’s in Juno." And we were like, "Oh my God."

And in the other Juno, you just played a pregnant Mary. Was that a coincidence?
[Laughs.] I have no idea what that’s about. And in a musical called Juno, where everyone was constantly asking me, "They made that into a musical already?"

Doctor Who - Russell T Davies To Leave Doctor Who

Russell T Davies is to step down as executive producer of the BBC hit show Doctor Who.

Davies brought the cult show back on to British television in 2005, breathing new life into the character and casting Christopher Eccleston as the time-travelling doctor.

Steven Moffat will succeed Davies as the lead writer and executive producer for the fifth series due to be aired in 2010.

Moffat has previously worked on the hit show and picked up a Bafta for his writing on previous episodes.

"It's a huge honour to be following Russell into the best – and the toughest – job in television," he said.

Davies returned the praise of his successor, claiming: "It's been a delight and an honour working with Steven, and I can't wait to see where his extraordinary imagination takes the Doctor. Best of all, I get to be a viewer again, watching on a Saturday night."

Jane Tranter, controller of BBC Fiction, paid tribute to both men, saying: "As lead writer and executive producer, he has overseen the creative direction and detail of the 21st century re-launch of Doctor Who and we are delighted to have his continued presence on the specials over the next 18 months.

"But the challenge and excitement of the fifth series is now being handed to Steven Moffat. The Tardis couldn't be in safer hands. Steven's talents on both Doctor Who and beyond are well known. He is a writer of glittering brilliance, comedy and depth, with an extraordinary imagination and a unique voice."

Davies is set to remain in charge of the four special episodes to be broadcast in 2009.

Superheroes go back to work

Comic-book-hero movie company Marvel Studios has reached an interim agreement with the Writers Guild of America, enabling striking Hollywood writers to go back to work on their projects.
For Marvel, it means that work can resume on 'Ant Man', 'Captain America', 'Thor' and 'The Avengers'.
'Hulk' and 'Iron Man' were already in production and were not affected by the strike; they are set for release later this year.
Film and television studio Lionsgate, Hollywood's biggest indie producers, has also reached an interim agreement with the guild.
Upcoming Lionsgate films include 'Rambo', 'The Eye' and 'Saw 5', while its television series include 'Weeds', 'Mad Men' and a new show, 'Fear Itself'.
"The writers' issue seems on its way to being solved, and Lionsgate felt it was an important time, particularly in view of our TV series, to have our writer partners get back to work," Lionsgate said in a statement.
"We look forward to a broad industry agreement soon," said a company representative.
Writers already have reached interim deals with studios including United Artists, the film production house backed by Tom Cruise and The Weinstein Co, run by media-mogul brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein.
Writers and producers resumed talks this week, aimed at ending a nearly three-month strike that has stopped most prime-time television production and some hope smaller deals will put pressure on the big studios.

Spears' manager is ordered to stay away

Britney Spears' self-styled manager Sam Lutfi has been served with a restraining order, which instructs him to stay at least 250 yards away from the star.
Courts documents say that Lutfi is also barred from communicating with Spears.
Reuters reports that lawyers for the singer's father, Jamie Spears, who has been granted temporary control of his daughter's business and personal affairs, filed court documents saying Lutfi was served with the order at his home on Thursday morning.
In court papers requesting the restraining order three weeks ago, Spears' mother Lynne claimed that Lutfi had drugged her daughter, cut her home phone line and was attempting to control her life.
Lynne Spears said that Lutfi told her and a friend that he gave Britney Spears pills ground up in her food to keep her quiet and at one point he told Britney she had to take 10 pills a day if she wanted to see her two young children.
Spears recently had her visitation rights for her two young sons stripped by a court after refusing to return them to their father Kevin Federline, who currently has custody of the children.

Kylie tells Britney to "reach out" for help

Pop singer Kylie Minogue has advised troubled star Britney Spears to "reach out" for whatever help she needs.
Speaking to The Sun, Australian singer Minogue said: "Who knows what is going on in her life? Britney isn't that young anymore. I think she will still come back but it's like she's taken an extended holiday."
She continued: "Whatever help she needs, she should reach out and get it. I wish someone would write a manual about fame because it's not easy."
The singer also said: "I'm always loath to say that because there are a lot more difficulties out there that people deal with every day - but when fame is handed to you, it is unique."
She added: "It's not to the same extreme, but I can remember having a mini-meltdown myself - and unless you've got good people around to support you, you've got a problem."

Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman has confirmed that she is expecting a baby with her singer husband Keith Urban.
The 40-year-old Australian star has pulled out of filming for her next movie 'The Reader'.
